Aortic Stenosis

Definition

Aortic stenosis is the narrowing of the aortic valve causing restricted blood flow from the left ventricle during systole.

Etiology
  • Degenerative calcification of the aortic valve
  • Congenital aortic stenosis
  • Rheumatic heart disease

  • Can be asymptomatic at early stages
  • Exertional dyspnoea
  • Chest pain
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Syncope
  • Peripheral oedema
