Mitral Regurgitation

Definition

Mitral regurgitation is the backflow of blood from the left ventricle to the left atrium during systole due to mitral valve abnormalities.

  • Can be asymptomatic at early stages
  • Dyspnoea
  • Orthopnoea
  • Palpitation
  • Fatigue
  • Reduced exercise tolerance
  • Peripheral oedema
